Mermaid & the Sailor

This limited edition print was created to mark the launch of Deathbed Confessions, the stunning concept album from my brilliant friend Hannah Rose Platt. The artwork was unveiled at The Camden Club in London June 2023, as part of a special commemorative release to celebrate the album’s arrival—and its haunting centrepiece, The Mermaid & The Sailor.

Inspired by classic horror, dark folklore, and poetic ghost stories, Deathbed Confessions is filled with songs that enchant, disturb, and linger long after they end. This particular track—a devilish duet with Ed Harcourt—dives into the murky depths of addiction, told through a nautical folk tale of temptation, tragedy, and the siren call of something darker.

I illustrated the piece to reflect the song’s eerie beauty and twisted romance, with a ghostly mermaid adrift beneath the waves, surrounded by fish, shipwreck relics, and hints of her fatal charm. A surreal and shadowy love story pulled from the deep.
